Women’s Soccer Drops Opener, 3-2

Hosey, Do Prado net goals

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland women's soccer scored twice in its season opener, but fell to Iowa Central Community College, 3-2, on Thursday afternoon at Parkland Soccer Stadium.

"The girls battled injuries in a close match today, said head coach Tim Notz. "It was great to see concepts we worked on in training come out in the game. There's still work to e done, but the girls have responded positively to our progress. We need to stay focused and get healthy."

Leading the Cobra attack were goals from sophomore forward Ali Hosey and freshman midfielder Mylena Do Prado.
Hosey's goal drew first blood in the match, finding the back of the net in the 14th minute. Parkland maintained the one-goal advantage for 10 minutes before Iowa Central's Kersten Molina scored twice in three minutes to give Iowa Central a 2-1 lead at the break.

After Iowa Central added a third goal six minutes into the second half, the Cobras increased its pressure on Iowa Central in the final 25 minutes of the match with four shots on goal. The third of those shots on frame proved successful when Do Prado scored off a corner kick by freshman Grace Redden.

The Cobras threatened again with a pair of corner kicks with eight minutes remaining and a shot on goal with six minutes remaining, but were unable to convert either attempt.

Parkland will be back in action a week from today, August 30, as they look for their first victory of the season at St. Charles Community College. The match in Cottleville, Missouri is scheduled for 4 p.m. central time.
