PALOS HILLS, Ill. – For the second time in less than 10 days, the Parkland women's soccer pushed a ranked opponent to the brink, but were unable to pull the upset, as the Cobras dropped a 3-2 decision at No. 11 Moraine Valley on Saturday afternoon.
"The girls are still working on playing 90 minutes of good soccer," said head coach
Tim Notz following the match. "We have great moments in the game, but a couple let downs end up costing us in all these close losses we've had this season. Tactically, as we move forward, we have to spend time in our decision making when we gain possession of the ball. Sometimes we rush and lose it too quickly, and we need to be more patient and get control of the game for longer periods of time. We can get there, but we have to get to work."
Facing an undefeated Moraine Valley squad (9-0-1) on its home grass, the Cobras became just the second team to score twice against the Cyclones, and just the second team to lose by a single goal.
Falling behind the 11
th-ranked Cyclones early in the second half after surrendering goals in the 44
th and 46
th minutes, Parkland quickly bounced back to tie the match with two goals in a 10-minute span.
In the 52
nd minute of the match, sophomore
Beatriz Meneghin found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season and her second this week. Ten minutes later, freshman
Georgia Ward scored the equalizer with her second goal of the season in the 62
nd minute.
However, the tie would only last for five minutes, as Moraine Valley's Sylvia Kordacka scored an unassisted goal in the 67
th minute that proved to be the game winner.
Up next, the Cobras finish its three straight road matches with a trip to Kaskaskia on Tuesday, September 25, at 4 p.m. central time.
