Box Score OLNEY, Ill. – Parkland women's basketball dropped its road contest at Olney Central on Monday, January 21, by a score of 79-67. Dropping to 12-7 on the season, Parkland was led by
Shoente'ra Russell with 13 points and nine rebounds and
Crystal Mathis with 12 rebounds and seven assists
After defeating Olney Central earlier this season at home, 73-60, the hosts on Monday defended their home court and evened the home-and-home series. Tied 18-18 after the first quarter, the host Knights outscored the Cobras 23-15 in the final nine minutes of the first half.
Leading 41-33 at the break, the Cobras kept the deficit in single digits for much of the third period, but trailed by 10 heading into the fourth. However, Olney Central continued their dominance from deep, extending its lead to 20 in the opening five minutes of the final quarter, and held on the for 12-point victory.
Despite shooting just 34 percent on the evening, Parkland's offense was boosted by 15 offensive rebounds. Grabbing 10 of the 15 rebounds were Russell and
Crystal Mathis who both brought down five each. In addition to Russell and Tapscott in double figures, Gemma Rescasens added in nine points and
Madelyn Brouwer scored eight. Setting ip the scoring was Mathis' seven assists.
Defensively, Mathis made her efforts count on the glass with seven defensive rebounds to combined with her five offensive boards. The 12 total rebounds mark a season high for the sophomore guard. Just missing a double-double Russell added four defensive rebounds to go with her five on offense.
Cassie Russo was third on the team with seven rebounds in just 14 minutes of play.
