Shoente'ra Russell scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds, but the Parkland women's basketball team fell at Lewis & Clark, 69-54, on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Cobras to 14-10 overall, 2-3 in the M-WAC.
Scoring in double figures for the sixth time this season, Russell led the Cobras with 16 points which marked her highest since netting 19 on November 14 versus Ancilla. Shooting 41 percent from the field on Saturday, Russell was efficient from beyond the arc, knocking down two of her three attempts from three, and converted four of her six free throw attempts.
Sophomore forward
Micah Tapscott finished second on the team in scoring with eight points, while also contributing a team-high seven rebounds. Five other Cobras finished right behind Tapscott in the scoring column, as
Crystal Mathis,
Alexus Cole and
Cassie Russo each totaled six points while
Emily Meinert and
Olivia Babcock tallied five apiece. Babcock also helped orchestrate the offense with five assists.
Forwards
Cassie Russo and
Emily Meinert joined Tapscott and Russell with five or more rebounds, Russo with six and Meinert with five.
Up next, Parkland will have a week off before traveling to Danville, Ill., on Saturday, February 16, for a 1 p.m. tipoff against Danville Area CC. The Cobras won the first leg of the home-and-home with a 56-42 victory on January 26.
