Cobras Fall Short in Regional Quarterfinals

Cobras finish the season 4-14-1

Box Score QUINCY, Ill. – The Parkland College women's soccer team's 2021 season ended on Tuesday afternoon, losing in their regional quarterfinals matchup against conference foe John Wood by a score of 4-0. The Cobras finish their regular season with a record of 4-14-1(1-4-1).

"Not the way we wanted our season to end but this team went out today and never gave up," said head coach Dan Vogelsang after the result. "JWCC came out with high intensity, and we just couldn't answer."

The Cobras fell behind early and never were able to make up any ground on Tuesday. The Blazers (5-8-2) scored three times in the first half and played great defense to make it 3-0 at the break. Despite an impressive 14 saves from Parkland's Becky Painter, John Wood scored again in the second half and secured the 4-0 victory. The Cobras were without Izzy Fritz, who led the team in points, and two other players coming into Tuesday evening's matchup with the Blazers, who Parkland went 0-1-1 against during the regular season.

"Rebuilding a program is never an easy task. Unfortunately, not the season we hoped for, but this is part of the growing pains as we work to bring Parkland Women's soccer back to a competitive level," says Vogelsang. "We have 12 freshman that have learned a lot this season and I look forward to what they will bring to this program next season. We have 5 sophomores that played a role in helping to rebuild this program.  I am thankful for their efforts that have helped set standards moving forward."
