CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Parkland College is proud to announce that the Cobras Men's Soccer Staff has been selected as the Junior College Midwest Region Staff of the Year by the members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program over the weekend. The Parkland Cobras Men's Soccer team finished the season with a 15-4-1 and ranked fifth in Division II by the NJCAA at the end of the year. This season the Cobras qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time since 2016, going 1-1 with a win over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and a loss to Georgia Military College to end their postseason run.
 
"This is really a team award in so many ways," head coach Mark Sikora reveals. "David and I were in the conversation for this award because we worked with amazing young men and Parkland staff every day. I am humbled by the recognition of being one of the top coaches in our level of soccer in America and extremely proud of being able to put the Parkland College name on the national stage."
 
Mark Sikora has been the head coach of the Parkland College Men's Soccer program for 17 seasons, leading the Cobras to a record of 182-80-10, six M-WAC Conference Titles (2008, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) and two NJCAA National Tournament appearances (2016, 2021). In the past, Sikora has been selected as the M-WAC Conference Coach of the Year twice (2013, 2015) and NJCAA Region 24 Coach of the Year twice (2016, 2020). Under Sikora, six different Cobras have been selected as NJCAA All-Americans, three athletes have been named NSCAA/USC All-Americans, and 17 student-athletes have been NJCAA Academic Award winners.
 
The Parkland College Athletic Department is proud of both head coach Mark Sikora and assistant coach David Galvin for all the hard work they put in to the Men's Soccer program and we are honored that they continue to represent the Cobras at the highest level of NJCAA Division II soccer year in and year out.
