No. 16 Cobras Defeat St. Louis Community College 80-38

Parkland improves to 4-0 at home this season

Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 16 ranked Parkland College women's basketball team looked in control, picking up its seventh win as the Cobras took down St. Louis Community College, 80-38 on Saturday, November 19th. Parkland outscored the Archers 32-14 in the paint, and the Cobras outrebounded their opponents 52-17 in the team's fourth straight win at home this season. Redshirt Sophomore Shae Bell led all scorers with 18 points and tied a career-high with 6 blocks in the win.
 
First-year head coach Laura Litchfield praised her team's defense following the win, saying, "Our defense came out and pressured them, and that set the tone early. From the jump, defense transitioned into our offense and that really helped us."
 
The Cobras (7-0) looked strong out of the gate, opening the game on an 8-0 run, and outscoring the Archers (0-5) 19-4 in the first quarter. St. Louis battled back in the second quarter, trimming the Parkland lead down to 10, but the Cobras closed the first half out on a 21-6 run, and the team went into halftime up 40-15. Parkland's defense kept the St. Louis offense quiet in the first half, with the Archers going 6-30 (20%) from the field. The third quarter started similarly to the first, and Parkland outscored St. Louis 24-9, going 11-20 (55%) from the field. The Cobras led by as much as 43 after freshman Abby Shepard hit a three with 8:10 left in the fourth. With the game in hand, the Cobras cruised to an 80-38 win on Saturday evening. This is Parkland's third win by 40 or more points this season.
 
Litchfield credits the 7-0 start to her player's commitment, saying, "Every player is buying in and focusing on our key concepts of what our program is about. We are pushing each other in practice every single day to get better. It's everyone just buying in and playing hard every single day."

Up next, the Cobras are off until after Thanksgiving Break, when Parkland will travel to Moline, Illinois, on Tuesday, November 29th, for a game against Black Hawk College-Moline. Tipoff time against the Braves (3-3) is still to be determined.
