Cobras Defeat Moraine Valley 59-36 in the Region 4 vs. 24 Challenge

Parkland wins its first home game of the season

Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College women's basketball team kicked off the Region 4 vs. 24 Challenge with a home win over Moraine Valley Community College on Saturday, November 5th. The Cobras outrebounded the Cyclones 50-29 in the team's first home game of the 2022 season. Sophomore Kenzey Decker led all scorers with 14 points while freshman Alyssa Cole (10 points, 16 rebounds) recorded her first career double-double.

"I loved the intensity we started the game with," Parkland College head coach Laura Litchfield exclaimed after her team's first home win. "Our focus was taking away their three-point opportunities and we were successful at that. Something we'll build on is keeping that same intensity for all four quarters. Overall, I'm glad to have our early efforts pay off and execute defensively."

The Cobras (2-0) caught fire early, as the team led 17-5 after the first quarter while holding the Cyclones (0-1) to just 12.5% from the field. The Cobras extended their lead in the second quarter thanks in large part to a strong start from beyond the arc, going 4-9 (44.4%) in the first half, and Parkland led 30-14 at halftime. Parkland did most of its damage in the third quarter at the free throw line, shooting 8-10 from the charity stripe, and the team looked in control with a 44-26 lead after three. The Cobras continued to play solid defense and force turnovers down the stretch and the team extended its lead out all the way to 26 points with 3:13 remaining. In the end it was never a doubt as the Cobras outscored the Cyclones in every quarter on their way to the 59-36 win in the Region 4 vs. 24 Challenge.
