Parkland wins its sixth straight

Box Score

CANTON, Ill. – The No. 13 ranked Parkland College women's basketball team held onto a large fourth-quarter lead at Spoon River College on Thursday, January 26th, as the Cobras defeated the Snappers 56-46 to improve to 3-0 in conference play this season. Freshman forward Alyssa Cole (21 points, 11 rebounds) led all scorers on Thursday night, recording her seventh career double-double in the win. The Cobras have now won six straight games and remain undefeated in 2023.

"Always excited to get a road win," head coach Laura Litchfield admitted after the game. "There are things we obviously need to work on and improve, but the good news is they are all fixable. We've got a quick turn around so making sure we prep and recover for the next game is key."

The Cobras (16-1) (3-0) struggled offensively early in the game, falling behind 16-11 after the first quarter, but the defensive effort was there all night. The Snappers (10-9) (0-3) felt the momentum shift a lopsided second quarter, as the Cobras outscored the hosts 19-4, and Parkland went into halftime with a 30-20 lead. In the third quarter, the Cobra defense continued to frustrate the Snappers as they extended their lead, leading 43-27 going into the fourth. Spoon River battled back in the closing stages of the game, cutting into the Parkland lead, and forcing the Cobras to make free throws down the stretch. Freshman Alyssa Cole remained calm, hitting nine out of 10 free throws to help the Cobras complete the 56-46 win in Canton.
