Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 13 ranked Parkland College women's basketball team rallied to win its seventh straight game on Saturday, January 28th, defeating Lincoln Land Community College 67-51 at home. The team trailed their conference foe with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, but a 17-3 Parkland run gave the Cobras a 10-point lead and they never let it go. Freshman Alyssa Cole (19 points, 11 rebounds) led the team in scoring and rebounding as the Cobras improved to 4-0 in conference play.
"I am so proud of our team with the way they played today," head coach Laura Litchfield boasted after the win. "Mistakes happened, things didn't always go our way, but they responded with the right attitude."
The Cobras (17-1) (4-0) frustrated the Loggers (13-5) (2-2) early in the first quarter, jumping out to a 9-0 lead four minutes into the game and forcing Lincoln Land to take an early time out. Parkland led by as many as 13 before the Lincoln Land got on the board, but the Loggers closed the first quarter on a 7-2 run to cut the Cobra lead down to 15-7. The Loggers continued to climb back into the game in the second quarter, and Parkland called a timeout with 4:30 remaining in the half, leading 23-21. The two teams traded buckets late in the quarter, and the Cobras held a 29-26 lead at halftime. Lincoln Land started strong in the second half, taking their first lead, 32-31, with 7:50 to go in the third quarter, but Parkland answered quickly. Trailing 37-33 with 6:06 on the clock, the Cobras locked down the Loggers defensively and closed out the third quarter on a 17-3 run, taking a 50-40 lead into the fourth. The momentum stayed on Parkland's side in the fourth quarter, as the Cobras extended their lead to 62-43 with 6:40 remaining in the game, and the Cobras cruised to a 67-51 win at home.
