Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 13 ranked Parkland College women's basketball team hit the ground running on Monday, January 9th, as the Cobras picked up a 100-27 win over Illinois Valley Community College. Parkland dominated IVCC in the paint, outscoring the Eagles 52-6 inside and outrebounding them 52-26 as the Cobras improved to 7-1 at home this season. Both sophomore Shae Bell (18 points, 20 rebounds) and freshman Ivie Juarez (13 points, 12 rebounds) recorded a double-double in the 73-point win, the largest margin of victory under first-year head coach Laura Litchfield. Sophomore guard Jennifer Heinberg led all scorers with 20 in the Cobras' third win in a row.
"We really focused on being intentional with our key concepts defensively and offensively, and we executed," Litchfield said after the win. "We controlled what we could and were consistent with our effort. We played great, team ball and, most importantly, we had fun."
The Cobras (13-1) struck early, getting out to an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes and never looked back on Monday. The Eagles (3-12) struggled to stop the Cobras inside, and Parkland led 32-6 after the first quarter. Freshmen Ivie Juarez and Alyssa Cole got on the board early in the second quarter, extending the lead to 42-12 with 6:12 until halftime. The Cobra defense then stepped up, holding the Eagles without a basket for the final five minutes of the second quarter, and Parkland went into halftime up 52-14. Sophomore Jennifer Heinberg opened the third quarter by burying a three, and the Cobras' hot shooting night continued. Heinberg drained another one with 6:20 left in the third to put Parkland ahead 67-19, as the Marengo native led the team in scoring in the second half with 13 points. The Cobras, who shot 54 percent from the field in the game, held an 80-23 lead at the end of three quarters, and with 6:30 remaining in the fourth, Parkland led 87-25. IVCC hit a layup with under a minute remaining as the Cobras handled the Eagles, 100-27, in Champaign. All 10 active players scored as the Parkland bench outscored IVCC 25-6.
