Parkland Women’s Soccer Completes Comeback Win on Sophomore Day

The Cobras defeat Lincoln Land 3-1 on their final home game of the regular season

Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College women's soccer team picked up an M-WAC conference win in their final home game of the regular season, defeating Lincoln Land Community College 3-1 on Wednesday, October 18. The Cobras (3-11) trailed the Loggers (0-14-4) early in the first half but bounced back with two goals before halftime in the team's first win at home. Sophomore Lisa Kirwan scored twice on Wednesday afternoon to close out Sophomore Day on a high note.

Interim co-head coach Mary Woods felt her team, "maintained high intensity throughout the entire game," in the win.

"Our strikers and midfielders stayed connected with one another," Woods said after her first win in charge. "Our defense did a great job of shifting together and communicating with one another and our keepers both played a great match."

Lincoln Land struck first with a counterattack against the run of play in the 16th minute. Sophomore Lauren Schnepper sparked the Cobras' comeback in the 20th minute, sprinting forward and crossing the ball in towards Lisa Kirwan to assist the equalizer. The Cobras took the lead on a corner kick midway through the first half when the cross found the back post and, with the ball bouncing dangerously in the 18-yard box, Cassidy McQueen fired a shot past the keeper to put Parkland up 2-1. Kirwan doubled the lead in the second half with her second goal of the day, finishing off a long cross to give the Cobras the 3-1 win.
