Parkland Women’s Soccer Falls 4-0 to Lewis & Clark CC

The Cobras lose their first game of the season

Box Score CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Parkland College women's soccer team opened their 2023 season with a tough 4-0 loss at home to Lewis & Clark Community College on Sunday, August 20th. The Cobras (0-1) struggled to create in the attacking third against the Trailblazers (1-1), and the visitors capitalized on their chances. Lewis & Clark scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the first half, and the Trailblazers kept the pressure on to score two more and hand Parkland the loss. Freshman Leire Rodriguez-Najera made seven saves in her Cobra debut.

"Not the result we expected today, but the heat and lack of depth on the bench got the best of us today," Parkland head coach Dan Vogelsang said after the game. "Unfortunately, three errors cost us three goals, but this team kept fighting to the end. We have some adjustments to make and a week to prepare for our next match."

Up next, Parkland hits the road for a game at No. 10 Southwestern Illinois College on Saturday, August 26th. Kick-off against the Blue Storm (0-0) is scheduled for noon on Saturday in Belleville, Illinois.
