CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa—November 19, 2025— The No. 14-ranked Parkland College women's basketball team faced its toughest challenge of the season on Wednesday night, falling 79–51 to No. 2 Kirkwood Community College on the road.
Kirkwood and Parkland played an even opening quarter at 21–21 before the Eagles began to separate with a 17–6 second frame. Despite a strong defensive effort from the Cobras, Kirkwood's efficient shooting and second-half surge proved too much to overcome.
Stacie Vonderheide led Parkland with 12 points and 5 rebounds, shooting 4-of-7 from the field. Sofia Perez added 11 points, including 3 made threes, along with 2 assists and a steal.
Yohangeli Guzman contributed 9 points, 2 rebounds, and an assist, while Leigha Brown added 5 points and 3 rebounds.
Trinity Harden provided a spark off the bench with 7 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals, and Haley Collins chipped in 4 points and a rebound.
As a team, Parkland went 18-for-58 (31.0%) from the field and 4-for-18 from three. The Cobras forced 15 turnovers but were unable to convert enough offensively against one of the top defenses in the NJCAA.
Parkland (5–1) will look to bounce back when they travel to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, to face No. 23 Bryant & Stratton College on December 3.
