LAKE WORTH, Fla.āDecember 18, 2025ā The No. 12-ranked Parkland College women's basketball team wrapped up play at the Palm Beach State Classic on Wednesday afternoon, falling 53ā59 to No. 10 Lansing Community College in a tightly contested tournament finale. The loss moves the Cobras to 8ā4 on the season.
Parkland held the early edge, leading 18ā12 after the first quarter, but Lansing slowly chipped away and took control in the second half. Despite multiple defensive stops and chances to close the gap late, the Cobras were unable to overcome cold shooting down the stretch.
Yohangeli Guzman and Siarah Brown paced Parkland with 8 points apiece, Stacie Vonderheide added 7 points and 3 rebounds. Crissiana Rose provided a strong presence inside, finishing with 9 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
Trinity Harden contributed 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Chineyenwa "Nae" Ibekwe added 6 points and 3 rebounds off the bench. Parkland also received scoring contributions from Haley Collins, Kayley Wedlow, and Kiarra Orphelia.
Defensively, the Cobras forced 14 steals, with Orphelia leading the way with four steals. However, Parkland struggled offensively, shooting 35.9% from the field and 11.1% from three-point range.
The Palm Beach State Classic provided a demanding three days for the Cobras, who faced multiple quality opponents while continuing to test themselves against strong competition early in the season.
Head coach Jean Demosthenes reflected on the Cobras' three-day stretch in Florida and the value of facing elite competition:
"Overall, the Palm Beach Classic was a highly competitive tournament for our players. I believe that we demonstrated our strength by playing top-ranked teams during the final three days. I am confident that we have improved as a team and are well-prepared for conference play. I am proud of these ladies and eager to see them compete in the conference."
Parkland will regroup during winter break before returning to action on January 3, when the Cobras travel to Centralia, Illinois, to face Kaskaskia College.
