CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — August 30, 2025 — Parkland College women's soccer started its 2025 campaign on a high note, securing a 2-1 win over visiting Lincoln Trail College in their season opener Saturday afternoon.
The Cobras struck first in the opening half before Lincoln Trail answered back to even the score at 1-1 heading into the break. Parkland kept its composure, applying steady pressure throughout the second half. Their persistence paid off as freshman Celia Barkley delivered both goals for the Cobras, finishing with five shots, including two on target, to power the attack.
Parkland's offense was relentless, recording 19 shots, including 9 shots on goal. Alongside Barkley's brace, strong contributions came from Ava Jansen (3 shots, 1 on goal), Alyssa Wells (3 shots, 1 on goal), and Jenna Clemmons, who put all three of her shots on frame.
The Cobras' back line and goalkeeper Grace Larson held firm in the closing minutes, preserving the one-goal advantage and sealing the first victory of the season.
With the win, Parkland moves to 1-0 overall and looks to carry momentum into their next match against St. Charles Community College on September 6th at noon.
