No. 15 Cobras Battle Ranked Foes at Heartland Winter Classic

Parkland faces three nationally ranked opponents in challenging two-day slate

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.—February 26, 2026— The No. 15 Parkland College baseball team took on three nationally ranked opponents at the Heartland Winter Classic on Thursday and Friday, falling to No. 16 Kankakee Community College (3-7), No. 18 Kirkwood Community College (6-10), and No. 5 Madison College (6-8).

Despite the 0-3 weekend result, the Cobras competed closely with each ranked opponent and showed flashes of offensive production throughout the tournament.

Game One: Parkland 3, Kankakee 7

The Cobras managed three runs, scoring in the second, fourth, and seventh innings, but were limited offensively overall. No. 16 Kankakee capitalized on timely hitting to secure the win.

Game Two: Parkland 6, Kirkwood 10

In the second game of Thursday's doubleheader, Parkland jumped out early, plating 5 runs in the second inning to take control. However, No. 18 Kirkwood answered with a seven-run third inning to shift the momentum.

The Cobras finished with 6 runs but were unable to overcome Kirkwood's big frame.

Game Three: Parkland 6, Madison 8

Facing the fifth-ranked team in the nation, the Cobras battled until the final inning Friday afternoon.

Parkland matched Madison early, scoring twice in the second and adding 2 more in the third to keep pace. The Cobras finished with 6 runs on the day but were edged out in a very competitive matchup.

Over the three-game stretch, Parkland continued to face high-level competition, testing itself against some of the nation's top programs.

Up next, the Cobras will travel to Senatobia, Mississippi on March 5 to take on Northwest Mississippi Community College as they look to rebound heading into the next phase of the season.
