CHAMPAIGN, Ill.—February 4, 2026— In a high-energy, tightly contested matchup, the No. 5 Parkland College women's basketball team came up just short against No. 8 Illinois Central College, falling 83–78. With the loss, the Cobras move to 18–5 on the season.

The game lived up to its billing, featuring multiple lead changes and strong play on both ends of the floor. Parkland kept pace throughout, matching Illinois Central's intensity and executing in key stretches to remain within striking distance until the final minutes.

Yohangeli Guzman led the Cobras with 15 points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers while attacking the basket and playing heavy minutes in the backcourt. Stacie Vonderheide added 11 points and was perfect from the free-throw line (4-for-4), while also contributing defensively.

Sofia Perez chipped in 11 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals, showcasing her all-around presence, and Kiarra Orphelia provided a strong spark off the bench with 12 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 effort from the free-throw line. Inside, Chineyenwa "Nae" Ibekwe recorded a double-digit rebounding performance, pulling down 11 boards to go along with 10 points.

Despite the loss, the Cobras showed poise and competitiveness against a nationally ranked opponent, continuing to demonstrate why they remain among the top teams in the region.

Parkland will hit the road on February 7, traveling to Canton, Illinois, to face Spoon River College. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m CST.
