Cobras Take Three of Four Against John Wood

Parkland earns series win with road sweep and home split

QUINCY/CHAMPAIGN, Ill.—March 29, 2026—The Parkland College baseball team put together a strong weekend against John Wood Community College, earning a three-game series victory across Saturday and Sunday.

The Cobras opened the weekend with a road doubleheader sweep in Quincy on Saturday (6–3, 10–2) before returning home on Sunday to split a doubleheader, falling 4–5 in Game One and bouncing back with a 7–1 win in Game Two.

With the results, Parkland improves to 16–13 overall on the season.

Saturday: Parkland 6, John Wood 3 | Parkland 10, John Wood 2

Parkland set the tone early with a pair of wins on the road.

In Game One, the Cobras used timely hitting and late insurance runs to secure a 6–3 victory, shutting down John Wood's offense after the early innings.

Game Two saw Parkland's offense take over, plating runs in multiple innings, including a four-run seventh to seal the 10–2 win. The pitching staff remained steady throughout both games, limiting opportunities and controlling the pace.

Sunday Game One: Parkland 4, John Wood 5 (7 innings)

Back at home, Parkland jumped out to an early lead with a four-run first inning, but John Wood chipped away and ultimately took the lead late.

Despite holding the Blazers hitless after the opening frame, the Cobras were unable to generate additional offense, as John Wood capitalized in the middle innings to edge out the 4–5 win in the seven-inning contest.

Sunday Game Two: Parkland 7, John Wood 1

The Cobras responded in a big way in the finale.

Parkland's pitching staff dominated, holding John Wood to just one run, while the offense steadily built its lead with runs in the second, sixth, and seventh innings. The balanced effort secured a 7–1 victory and clinched the series for the Cobras.

Parkland's ability to respond after a tough loss and secure the series highlights the team's resilience as they continue to build momentum.

Up next, the Cobras will travel to Fairfield, Illinois on March 31 to face Frontier Community College.
