CHRISTY BUSHUR PERINO

Christy Bushur Perino played volleyball for Parkland College in the 2004 and 2005 seasons, earning NJCAA Division II Volleyball Second-Team All-American status in 2005. Christy started her volleyball career at Parkland, earning First-Team All-Conference Honors in 2005, but really improved her game in the 2005 season, helping lead the Cobras to a 43-11 record and a spot in the NJCAA Region 24 Championship match that year. During the 2005 season, Christy was named Conference Player of the Year and All-Region 24 First Team. That season, while she was an important member of the defensive corp for the Cobras, tallying 473 digs (3.815/set) and 21dig/kill double-doubles (12 of these against ranked opponents), her offensive prowess was most notable as she amassed 456 Kills (3.677/set). This kills/set mark ranked Christy in the top 25 nationally. She also achieved over a .400 hitting percentage against 7 different ranked opponents that season.

Christy excelled in the classroom, also earning a spot on the NJCAA All-Academic Team for the 2005-2006 academic year. This strong academic performance led her to Illinois State University after she completed her time at Parkland College. While at ISU, she earned a B.S. in Speech Pathology in 2008 and a M.S. in Speech Pathology in 2010. She used those degrees to become a licensed Speech Pathologist in the state of Illinois. Since leaving college, she has worked as a Speech Pathologist for the Dixon Public School District, serving preschoolers and students with disabilities.

After a very successful high school career at Effingham St. Anthony, Christy was a legacy volleyball player at Parkland College, donning the Cobras jersey as her two older sisters, Beth (2001 and 2002) and Katie (2002 and 2003), did before her. After graduating from ISU, Christy married her husband, Justin Perino. The couple has 5 children – Meg, Sloane, Reese, Beckett, and Knox. Chisty has recently returned to the sport of volleyball, serving as her daughter’s volleyball coach in Dixon.
