Mike Hatfield
Initially signed at Parkland to wrestle, but when the wrestling program was dropped, he joined the cross country and track teams. While competing for Parkland College, he won 3 NJCAA Region IV Track titles, was named to the NJCAA All-State team 6-times, and left Parkland as the school record-holder in the 3000m steeplechase. He continued at Eastern Illinois University, where he was a member of the 1977 NCAA National Championship Cross Country team, earned NCAA Track & Field All American honors, held the EIU school record in the 3000m steeplechase for over 26 seasons, and represented the USA in the International Friendship Games. At the end of his career, he had run in 9 NJCAA/NCAA/USA National Finals races in 6 different events, leaving behind 2 school records, 2 meet records, and 1 stadium record. In addition to being a member of the Parkland College Athletic Hall of Fame, he is also a member of the Hoopeston High School Athletic Hall of Fame, the EIU Athletic Hall of Fame, and The Greater Illiana Sports Hall of Fame.
